Lightning Strikes Twice
Support Team Helps Restart Carwash
Quickly After Lighting Strike
Bob Sehlmeyer's career as general manager of the busy Maple City
Auto Wash in Adrian, Michigan started off with a "jolt," quite literally.
The friendly Midwesterner was still very new to his job at the exterior-only
wash last year when it was struck by lightning. "There's never a
'good time' for a lightning strike, but I was still learning my way around
the carwash when we got hit, so it was especially difficult," he
recalled.
Maple City's power was restored soon after the lightning strike, but when
its CarWatch® computer came on, nothing seemed to be functioning properly. "Everything
was scrambled by the lightning," said Sehlmeyer. "All the lights
were flashing, and the tunnel equipment wasn't being turned on properly."
Sehlmeyer called the DRB Systems support team and was guided step-by-step
through the process of resetting his computer. "They were very friendly
and very patient," he said. "I was low on the learning curve,
but they calmly walked me through all of the instructions on my screen
until the computer was reset."
As Sehlmeyer recalls, the entire process of resetting his computer
was fast and efficient. The lightning strike that knocked out the wash's power
occurred around 3 p.m. Within two hours, Maple City's CarWatch System was
working smoothly, and vehicles were going through its tunnel again.
"Jeff Bankey, the owner of our wash, always told me that the support
people at DRB Systems were really helpful and responsive," said Sehlmeyer. "The
afternoon that the lightning hit, I discovered for myself just what Jeff
meant -- we can count on the DRB Systems support team."
